Partnership with Zagara's Marketplace in Supermarket News

Historic Greater Cleveland grocer teams

with on-line newcomer for orders, delivery

CLEVELAND OH – One of the oldest and most respected names in Northeast Ohio’s grocery industry is teaming up with the newest and most innovative name in the business.

Zagara’s Marketplace in Cleveland Heights, which began as a corner grocery store on Cleveland’s Kinsman Ave. in 1936, has entered into an agreement with PrestoFreshGrocery Delivery, an on-line ordering and next-day delivery service that opened for business in Greater Cleveland late last year.

PrestoFresh already offers a full line of more than 5,000 products in a three-county area, including fresh produce, meats, frozen foods, and everyday household items. Under the agreement with Zagara's, it will now have access to thousands of additional items, including Ohio-raised meats, produce purchased locally five days a week, and one of the region’s most extensive selections of specialty foods, imports, and certified products. Zagara’s, whose principal geographic market is the Heights area, will now be able to access all of Cuyahoga County as well as parts of Lake and Lorain counties.

“We’re extremely pleased to be able to partner with one of the strongest, most iconic names in the industry,” said PrestoFresh owner and founder Steve deMoulpied. “It’s an independent, family-owned business that cares about customer service as much as we do.”

Zagara President John Zagara, who succeeded his father Frank in 1992, said he welcomed the opportunity to work with PrestoFresh, the first and only company in the area offering cyber grocery shopping and store-to-door delivery seven days a week.

“We’re impressed by their innovative approach, their energy, and their commitment to customer satisfaction,” said Zagara. “We’ve been around for 78 years, but we’re always looking for new and better ways to meet customers’ demands and needs.”

PrestoFresh is updating its website to include several thousands items offered by Zagara’s, including produce that is purchased fresh daily at the Northern Ohio Food Terminal at E. 40th Street and Woodland Avenue and Ohio-produced meats that are fresh-cut and packaged daily by in-store butchers at Zagara’s Marketplace, 1940 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights. The landmark store recently underwent a $400,000 renovation and modernization.

PrestoFresh opened its doors for business last Nov. 29, providing on-line ordering through its website. Customers can schedule next-day home delivery, with delivery charges as low as $4.95. Since testing customer response in a few Cleveland neighborhoods late last year, including downtown and University Circle, the company has steadily expanded its service area.

Besides its individual residential customers, PrestoFresh has also established relationships with companies that provide residential property management services for apartment buildings and condos; and it is working with a number of employers interested in offering either office or home delivery as an employee benefit to its workers.

“Busy professionals and families don’t always have the time to make specials trips to a traditional grocery store or market,” explained deMoulpied. “And some elderly persons or people with physical or medical limitations find it difficult to get out. We’re able to eliminate the inconvenience and overcome the challenges related to mobility and access.”
